ReNAPRI to contribute to implementation of call to action on climate change

The Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRI) will support the African Union Commission’s (AUC) Department for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (DARBE), in implementing the Comprehensive Africa Climate Change Initiative (CACCI), within the context of the Africa Climate Change Strategy. The overall objective of the strategy is to contribute to the attainment of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 by building the resilience of the continent to the negative impacts of climate change.

The CACCI program was officially launched on 8th November 2021, during the COP26 meeting held in Glasgow, Scotland. Present during the launch meeting was the AUC Commissioner for DARBE, Her Excellency Amb. Josefa Sacko, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, Hon. Collins Nzovu, Minister for Green Economy and Agriculture (Zambia) and Ministers from Ghana and Rwanda as well as officials from other African countries.

CACCI is designed to support African countries in implementing their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and importantly, their National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). CACCI is also aligned to other continental initiatives including the 2021 Green Recovery Action Plan and the 2014 Malabo Declaration.

ReNAPRI, together with AKADEMIYA2063, will lead in supporting a proof of concept through implementation of CACCI in four countries, with a view to scaling out the initiative to more countries in the continent.
