Research is a fundamental pillar of human progress. It enables us to expand our understanding of the world and address complex challenges like climate change. In today’s interconnected world, collaboration has become an indispensable tool that enhances the quality and impact of research endeavors across disciplines.
Dr. Antony Chapoto, Technical Chair of ANAPRI (Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes), spoke on the topic of “Strengthening academic and expert networks for climate change resilience” at the 2023 Annual Feed the Future Innovation Labs Regional Partners Meeting in Nairobi on May 15-16, 2023. In his presentation, he drew on the experience of ANAPRI to discuss how to create robust networks and support academic and expert networks to build resilience in the future. He argued that collaboration can help to effectively share knowledge and expertise, develop new research methods and approaches, pool resources and as well increase the impact of research.
Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ANAPRI) was formed on November 16, 2012, as an initiative of national agricultural policy institutes in Africa. The network’s goal is to enable its members to effectively coordinate with each other, share data, and collaborate on providing solutions to the common challenges facing the African continent. ANAPRI has received support from several international partners. With this support, the network has undoubtedly continued to provide its members with an opportunity to collaborate effectively in support of the continent’s food system.
Through the ANAPRI network, initiatives such as the Comprehensive Action for Climate Change Initiative (CACCI) are being implemented in Africa toward developing a proof of concept. CACCI responds to the Africa Climate Change Strategy and complements the AU Green Recovery Action Plan. Its aim is to support member states in implementing NDCs and NAPs.
ANAPRI’s collaboration with academic and expert networks is undeniably helping to build resilience for the future. By sharing knowledge and expertise, pooling resources, and advocating for policies that support agricultural research and development, ANAPRI is helping to build a more informed, capable, and innovative community of researchers and experts. This collaboration is a valuable resource for those working to address myriad challenges, and with the right support, it can help to build a more resilient and sustainable future for Africa and the world at large.
