From the Executive Director’s Desk

Our 16 Research Directors based in central, east, west and southern Africa, play a crucial role in facilitating capacity building in our member institutions. This is aimed at advancing growth in the ANAPRI network, and strengthening our research and outreach activities in the continent.

Join me in congratulating ANAPRI’s newest Research Director, Dr. Mmatlou Kalaba! He is a Senior Analyst and Executive Director at Bureau for Food and Agriculture Policy (BFAP) in SA. He also serves as a research fellow at Stellenbosch University. His focus areas include international trade and agricultural policy analysis. He also previously served with the University of Pretoria as Senior Lecturer. Mmatlou has a PhD from University of Pretoria and holds a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University (OSU). He is the past President of the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA), and served as the President and Secretary-Treasurer for more than a decade. He currently serves on a number of national committees, and this is besides several other tasks under his belt. Congratulations Dr. Mmatlou!

The Doc comes into this role to succeed a dynamic woman, Lulama Traub – one of the founders of ANAPRI and whose footprint is evident everywhere in the network’s growth trajectory. Thanking Lulama for her strength and commitment to developing Africa’s food system, through her contributions as ANAPRI RD for BFAP, and lead expert on several assignments!
